Various buildings & signboards that I had found interesting.
- Accesories chain store
- Building of two world at Xi men ding
- Just because the signboard is a four leaf clover :)
- Food of a noodle
- Jesus Love us :)
- Kawaii signboards
- Starbucks, I love the expression of random people
- Libra cafe
- Closet in a wall
- Little brother shoe store...
- Happy students in Xi men ding. They all wear school uniforms with their student ID or their names sewn on!
- My tour mates walking to SKM Xinyi.
- Mobile butchery in Jiu fen. Fancy that!
- Oyster omelette and stinky beancurd at Shih Lin food market
- Taiwanese styled bento with your selection
- Side dishes at the beef noddle restaurant
- Noodle in beef soup and beef ;)
- Assorted braised meat at the entrance of Shih Lin night market.
- Ah Zong vermicelli
- The bakeries rock! As in they are great!
- Making doughnuts. The girl in the background likes her photo to be taken!
- Ah gei which is vermicelli stuffed in beancurd. I have only seen this in Dan shui. Fish ball soup.
- BBQ stinky beancurd!
- Food on display at SKM foodcourt
- Part of the bestest rice set at SKM food court. Look out for the wan nian pai gu dian or ten thousand years spare rib shop.
- The ramen foodstall at 101 tower food court
- Char siew ramen, which were just average for me. I prefer leaner cut of char siew, didn't like the texture of the noodle. Soup base was quite good.
- Food stall at 101 tower food court. Funny to us! Click on the picture to see why!
Jiu fen is a quaint old mining town. There's no more mining works and it's surprisingly full of local and foreign toruists. Starbucks has etched a mark in this town!
We also ventured further to Jin gua shi where the movie, A city of sadness was filmed here. We found the location rather easily as indicated in the map, but was dismayed to find it was wrecked due to typhoon.
We were all quite tired, and found a cafe to sit, drink and make merry. All is well except for the occasional whiffs of stinky beancurd. Haha!
Here's more photos on Jin gua shi town.
Afterwhich, we took a straight bus to Taipei. Around evening time, I met my long time Internet friend, Cerjary to have dinner with him and his wife. So all eight of us went to his favourite hotpot restaurant and have a authentic hotpot dinner. I love the hot pot dinner and I think I ate the most. oops. ;) It was great meeting after all these while that we got to know each other. Easily 6 years and as far as I remembered! :) So Cerjary, if you are reading this, hope we can see each other again and soon. :D After our dinner we had a nice stroll along the very crowded Tong hua street night market and had ice for dessert.
I feel like my legs had weighed a tonne after Day 3. We have covered so many places and I think I bought the most things on this day. Mostly books! I wonder how this guy feel.
Our day were pretty much spent in malls around the city hall area. As you have probably seen for yourself by now, this trip is mostly about shopping and eating. We had to abandon our original plan, coz we only found out that it was a long, long way to reach the destinations.
Being living in a small island nation all our lives, we might have underestimate the travelling distance required. Well, there's always a next trip to Taiwan. ;) I heart Taiwan!
I just had to rave about the food in the SKM food court. The mince meat rice set is a must try!!!! If I could, I would eat it everyday. (See below)
Then I got to visit my book Mecca, the Eslite Xinyi flagship store! My wish has been fulfilled and I was a happy camper. Taiwanese really love reading. It's evident, that every bookstore that I visited, there would be a fair number of people in it. A little unahppy thing happened in Eslite as I tried to snap some pictures. A man wasn't happy that I was taking pictures with him in it. He didn't directly scold me, but he sure made his points loud and clear that I was violating his potrait rights (???) and I was shameless (???!!!). I was miffed but decided he wasn't worth my time. Heck, I was just a tourist. I also deleted his photo. Not that he was a pretty sight to begin with. ;)
I almost forgot about Wu fen pu, the clothings wholesale place in Taipei... I gave up after walking 10 mins and spent my time reading in a little bakery while waiting for my friend. First time for me, coz when it comes to shopping, I am quite formidable. Bwahahahaha. :)
Dan shui is beautiful so I have dedicated a post to it alone. We made it just in time for sunset, which is why we all get to pat ourselves on the back, as sunset in autumn is around 5:30pm. In Singapore it's around 7pm.
On the way to Dan shui, waiting for the next train.
We didn't visit the Fisherman wharf, coz we didn't realise that it's on the other side of the bank and we had to take a bus there. We covered quite a distance in the night market (again!) to eat and browse the shops along the way. It's a small pity, coz it will be great to visit somewhere that was sung in a song.
What was special about Danshui? I think it's tranquility of a little seaside town.
We had beef noodles for brunch. This being our first time in Taiwan
ordering noodles. We didn't know that Noodle in beef soup, well that's
what it just is(!), with no beef at all. So we had to order some beef
and that was pretty funny.
Walked around the Taipei main station area and book street. My impression? Food everywhere. Book street lived up to its name. Often when we ventured into a bookstore, we were surprised to find it's bigger in the inside and span across different levels!
Enough raving about the cutlet. We also tried the coffin case (didn't take any photo) and the rest of our gastronomy adventure will be captured in the food theme. Watch out for it! However I will like to point out Da bing bao xiao bing (see pic on right) is not to be tried. It's tasteless and as dry as a desert. Don't waste any precious stomach space on this!
We then proceed to the shopping belt of the market and shopped till midnight. The place was already quite crowded with shoppers and peddlers... Can't imagine the weekend. Still, that was my first experience in the night market and I must say the night market in Taiwan are more interesting than the mobile night market (pasar malam) we have in Singapore. The prices in this market were so-so... there are places in other parts of Taipei that one could find similar stuff at a lower price.
I just changed the theme on my blog again to World Travel this time, coz I will be travelling to Taiwan on Wednesday!! The weather forecast readings looks promising. I could imagine myself walking in the 28/16°c weather. Of course we all know that weather forecast is never accurate ;) but at least I know that I don't have to bring along my thick jacket and this means that I can lug more travel spoils back! ;D I will be travelling with a friend and her friend. I haven't even meet them before, but I believe it will turn out fine. Miss nice personality is here and there after all. ;)
We will be visiting sun moon lake, Taroko national park, maybe a visit to hot spring and a short stay in Taipei. The important part of this trip is not only finally get to visit the "treasure island", but also to meet a long time ICQ friend and to visit my Mecca of Chinese books, the 24 hour Eslite bookstore and buy more books back. ;)
